over exfoliation Login/Join

I over exfoliated with a microdermabrasion cloth. The scab fell off a few weeks ago but it left a dark spot underneath. Should I already start to work on this area with hydroxy acids and copper peptides or will the dark spot continue to fade on its own for a while? When should I start to work on this area? Thanks.

Dear jimi6065:

Yes, microdermabrasion cloths can be deceptively more effective than they may appear.

You'll want to keep the area well moisturized but do not use any hydroxy acid (or other method of exfoliation). Let the area completely calm down first.

Perhaps a little bit of Regular CP Serum (which is good to always keep on hand), diluted down with water, can be used every other day. The dark spot will gradually start to fade on its own.

For a good two weeks, hold off on using any method of exfoliation. Take care of the area very gently.

Best Tips on How to Use Microdermabrasion Cloths

Microdermabrasion cloths can be deceptively more effective than they may appear. It is vital to use very gently and go slow. Here are some valuable tips:

HOW TO USE: Most microdermabrasion cloths only need to be used once every 7-10 days for 90 seconds of deep exfoliation. Deep exfoliation treatments should not be administered more than once every 7-10 days. AVOID concentrating use around eye area or on delicate neck skin or on any area where the skin is more sensitive. Use in a very gentle motion.

DAILY CLEANSING: For everyday light exfoliation, use your cloth for about 20 seconds total on your face, gently rubbing downward and outward. Never use a microdermabrasion cloth more than once a day for light cleansing.

REMEMBER: Do not concentrate on any particular area. Use as a general "buffer" for the face. Be extremely careful when using around delicate eye skin.

FIRST TIME USERS: Follow the directions (not more than once every 7-10 days). You may notice that the skin may become more rosy in color for a day or so after the first treatment. Substantial difference should be seen after about 21 days.

SPOT TREATING: Although microdermabrasion cloths specifically excel because they can be used for effective spot treating, remember that caution should be exercised to avoid overuse or excessively scrubbing. Use gentle circular motions when spot treating. If you plan on using the cloth for spot treating blemishes/marks, gently buff the skin for 20 seconds ONLY if you plan on trying it every day. The skin should never become red, inflamed, or irritated. The skin should never scab over. This would be a sign of extreme overuse.

Test on a small area first.

BEST FOR: Stubborn blemishes, oily skin, to minimize the look of wrinkles/fine lines, enlarged pores, age spots, or to more effectively cleanse the skin of dead cells, dirt, and oil....

Skin Biology will be introducing effective, but gentle, microdermabrasion cloths you can use to fade the appearance of marks and blemishes and standard anti-aging skin care.
