chemical sunblock
I have been using avobenzone, homosalate, PABA, etc for many years and now I am scared beyond belief of these toxins. Dr. Pickart what is the safest ingredient to look for in a sunblock which will last through sports and under makeup.

Pure Titanium Dioxide or Zinc Oxide.

Pure - not micronized or coated with silicones or plastics.

Dr.Pickart,

I always thought that coated Zinc Oxide & Titanium Oxide excelled uncoated ones?

May you shed light on the importance of uncoated physical filters? Thx!

Pure zinc oxide and titanium dioxide are pasty. But when coated with silicones or plastic, they are more transparent. However, the coated products tend to slip into the skin and just sit there. Your skin should just be skin, without layers of coated minerals.

I am using a physical ss with these ingredients:

Deionized Water, Sunflower Oil, Lecithin, Coconut Oil, Glycerine,
Xanthan Gum, Green Tea Extract, Jojoba Oil, Tocopheryl
Acetate (Vitamin E), Retinyl Palmitate (Vitamin A),
Shea Butter, Eucalyptus Oil.
Titanium Dioxide (6%), Zinc Oxide (6%)

Is this ok?

Hi,

What one of the two products...Day Cover or Copper Sun Tanning Lotion would be the best choice for the face. Not an oily base since at times I use makeup.

Dr. Pickart
Copper Sun Tanning Lotion.

But for intense sun exposure, also use a mineral sunblock over the Copper Sun.
