ladies--does the folligen shampoo weigh down your hair?
it seems to weigh mine down--maybe too much to use it every day (it was worse the 2nd day).

Hi D,
Yes, the shampoo did weigh down my hair, and so I had to learn to do ALOT more rinsing. Switching off w/ another shampoo helps, too. That said, my hair has never been more consistently shiny and nice since using this shampoo. I really like it overall.

Hi d,
I shampoo my oily hair everyday, and my hair does not get oily prematurely before the next wash like other gentle shampoos. Washing with the Folligen shampoo does not weigh down my hair even after my scalp treatment with the Folligen cream/lotion/emu oil for hair.

Dear D and saharashazz:
We recommend shampooing and conditioning only as needed. (If there is any way you can get away with doing it less, try it! Excessive shampooing is one of the causes of damage to the hair shafts).
Since Folligen Shampoo/Conditioner can be very "heavy" others have tried using a clarifying/clearing shampoo every once in a while to effectively cleanse off excess buildup.
Unfortunately, I have to wash my hair every day b/c it is so fine and thin that it gets oily just by the end of the day (when i've washed it that morning).

Dear d:
Oh, we understand.
Then you may want to try another shampoo (or use a clarifying shampoo from time to time).
If you switch to another shampoo you can still use Folligen Lotion on the scalp to keep the SRCPs working on improving hair growth.

My hiar is very long at the moment, so I can coment on this. I wash and shampoo every second day, and these are by far the best shampoo/conditioner I have ever used. Though I have never really used very expensive shampoo/conditioner to be honest, but just comparing it to pantene or things like that it is a hundred times better.

Yes, I find that it really flattens out my very fine hair, no matter how long I rinse it for, which is a real shame because I'd be happy to use it exclusively otherwise.
What I do at the moment is mix half the shampoo with a hair thickening shampoo. Not my preference but at least my hair doesn't wind up flat as a pancake and it's nice to know I'm getting some CPs on my scalp.
I, too, have to wash my (long) hair every 2-3 days because it gets really oily, though the ends are dry.
I've also been experimenting with conditioner only washes, where you put a larger amount of conditioner in your hair than normal and leave it in for a lot longer (at least 10 minutes). This is nice too. I tried it with the CP conditioner (until I ran out), but that tended to make my hair more oily, plus it's a little pricey to use up so much so quickly. I think for the conditioner only washes you have to find the right conditioner that works with your hair. I'm still searching... I found a couple I liked but can't get where I am, or are a bit costly for lots of use, so I've returned to the shampooing for now....
But yes, if there was a version of the CP shampoos that didn't weigh the hair down so much I'd use them all the time. Julie

Dear Julie: Yes, many have commented that it seems to "weigh down" their hair. But the very things that make Folligen different and beneficial to the hair and scalp are what can cause this effect...so at the moment we really don't see how we could make a beneficial Shamp/Cond. without this side result; we may have to go back to the drawing board on this one.
Right now we suggest to definitely just use as needed (which is better for the hair anyway) or from time to time use a good clarifying shampoo to give it a deep cleanse and clean off all residue or excess buildup.
Thank you, -Skin Biology

Any thoughts on whether it would be more beneficial to use every other day--or to mix half and half w/ a regular shampoo and use daily?

Sure D, You could do that... We would suggest to use it every other day and that way have the full benefit of the copper-peptide complex un-diluted by another shampoo's detergents or ingredients.
The Folligen solution helps harden the protective proteins of the keratin. The shampoo also contains no "flash-foaming" agents that can damage the hair. Due to this, some use more of the product than needed trying to get a 'nice lather'. So make sure to only use a small amount. The hair will get clean with a small amount. You may want to try using less product and give a really good rinse to help with the "heavy hair" feeling.
Just a note on "Clarifying Shampoos": As you'll note on our website it strongly cautions against overdoing it. An excerpt:
"Be careful of "clarifying shampoos". They are rather harsh and intended to remove materials that build up on hair such as mousses and sprays but they also can remove color and perms. Some hair experts recommend avoiding such shampoos and instead just mix, in your hand, plain baking soda from your kitchen with your normal shampoo and apply this to your hair to remove build up."
Currently we have said though that these products can be used, but be careful of overuse.

Actually, I don't seem to need a clarifying shampoo--switching w/ my regular shampoo seems sufficent. I will certainly try to use less (its hard to spread around though!!) and will do the every other day thing. Thanks!

thanks for the reply SB, I wonder what would happen if I tried using the shampoo with baking soda. I also have shampoos without things like SLS, but they still don't give that heavy effect. For now, my best way seems to mix a regular (but healthy) shampoo with folligen shampoo. Actually, re using less folligen shampoo: I discovered this only recently!!! But still, my fine hair is just soooo flat on top after using... If I figure out something that works better I'll let you know.

Sorry about going slightly off-topic here but i have a question for SB.
I've heard that hair follicles on the scalp react to excessive DHT and hence the reason for fallout. If DHT builds up around the follicles and is not removed (washed out) fast enough then hair fallout is more severe.
I've noticed that if i have not shampooed every second day, that my hair falls out in bigger clumps. However, when i shampoo every second day the fallout seems to be less? Is this just my imagination or is there something to this DHT theory?
Thanks
Deb

DHT cannot be washed out. DHT does not "build up" around the follicles. In men, DHT causes follicles to get thinner and shorter with each successive iteration of the hair, until it eventually is so short and thin that it can't be seen.

Dear Julie:
You can try using Folligen and then follow with the "baking soda rinse" and see if it helps...it won't hurt.
Definitely let us (all) know if you find something that works for you.

Okay, I'll try it out. How much baking soda? A teaspoon or so? Julie

I have had much better luck using a little less and risning like there was no tomorrow! I'm still sticking to every other day though--it does still weigh my hair down some and I think 2 days in a row would leave my looking grubby

Oh noooo! Maybe another version for folks with really fine hair, but I just started using the shampoo and conditioner and just LOVE IT!!! Believe me, I've tried lots and lots of products in my day, and I really like the way the folligen made my hair feel. Very healthy feeling, and not flyaway or limp at all. I guess you would call my hair "normal" and usually I've gone for either "color-treated" or "extra-body" types of products. Anyway, just wanted to say how much I'm liking these two products.
I don't think I've used long enough to experience any build-up, but I'm planning anyway to alternate every 3rd or 4th time with a 3% salcylic acid shapmpoo for cleansing my scalp, which has issues with ezcema and some irritation from hair coloring. I'd procrastinated spending so much money on shampoo and conditioner, but so far, I'm not regretting doing so. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Lilu,
