I'm a 21 year old female that wants healthier skin, hair, nails and, of course, a healthier body and mind. I eat a vegan diet and I try to eat healthily - a lot of raw fruit and vegetables, but I've been trying to get the best combination of supplements together to be healthier and prevent aging.

At the moment I am taking four different supplements. I provided links to each product so that you can see every vitamin and mineral that each one contains and let me know if I'm getting enough or too much of anything. I don't know if I should take anything out of my current routine or add onto it.

I currently take one of each everyday: Rainbow Light Just One Women's Multi-Vitamin, Omega 3-6-9, 50mg of Coenzyme Q-10 and 50mg of Alpha-Lipoic Acid.

Sometimes I feel and worry that taking four seperate pills every day is too much and may be more harmful than beneficial, but I don't think the dosage of everything is too much. Is this a good routine? Should I take anything out or switch brands? Is there anything I should add?

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!!

EDIT: Thanks to a suggestion by Stoney, I also plan on taking 1.5 grams of MSM as well. Do you think five different supplements a day is too much?

I am curious too.

I have always taken a multi-vitamin, and I added MSM and vit C, as suggested by Dr. Pickart. Is there anything else that would be beneficial to add?

I know many scientists who work on aging. They all seem to take a pile of supplements every day.

And live and work a very long time.

Yes, the younger you are the less supplementation you should need, but that also depends on your diet.

I have taken the whole gammot of Vitamins since my 20's, but NOW have included additional ones to help in anti-aging. While it is difficult to pick one that would be MOST important, I think CoQ-10 is a MUST.

Omega 3's, DHEA, ALA are other anti-aging supplements that everyone over 40 should probably take.

I duuno Confused? , I always feel good & have tons of energy...it is the renewing of the scarred pores that is sooooo difficult. No supplement under the sun can help do it, only CPs can. The Vitamins & antioxidants help with skin repair once the damage is removed.

I wish it was as easy as popping a pill...but, it is NOT!

I'm out of here, running to my health-food store (family-owned, mind, you.)

My shopping list includes: DHEA, CoQ10, ALA, -- what else? I have my C, E, tocos, astaxanthin, MSM. I'm approaching "that age" where I can't afford to fall behind. Any more suggestions? Smiler

Some scientists say that (in addition to a daily vitamin) alpha lipoic acid and acetyl carnithine are the most important.

But always monitor your body's response to supplements. Some can cause problems - too much gingko and vitamin E can cause bleeding.

A variety of fruits and vegetables contain a huge number of different anti-oxidants.

We still don't know which anti-oxidants are needed for good health, so always keep a high intake of fruits and veggies.

I do my best, but a rabbit I'm not.

Frankly, I just want a wonderful man who shares my love for the good things in life. (I've been through a miserable divorce that made me consider becoming a hermit. I don't think I'm cut-out for that, however.)

That's funny Annick,

I happen to be a "Bunny & a Happy Hermit" married 27 yrs. I have been a hard core vegetarian MOST of those yrs. who always ate seafood. I call my diet "Aqua-Vegetarianism"... Big Grin...

I have recently added some yogurt & cheeses back into my diet. Overall though, the benefits from my diet have been well worth my efforts. It has actually been a life long passion for me.

Now on meeting Mr. Right, that I don't think I can help you out with...it's kind of like fate...you have to be at the right place at the right time, so hold-off on being a hermit for NOW!... Big Grin...

Also, since I am a Bunny, I take a shot of Sea Silver ea. day which is a loaded, liquid mineral supplement to fill out anything I may be missing.

What is Sea Silver? You're always funny.

Lucky you - married 27 years. Congratulations!!! Bravo!

I eat fish and try to get my leafy greens, but I feel as if I cannot get enough in. Frowner

Annick,

Sea Silver is a liquid mineral supplement that now goes by the name "Sea Aloe". Not to be confused with Colloidal Silver which is what turned Mr. Blue BLUE... Frowner...
GNCmakes a similar product called Mineral Rich.

I also take a liquid supplement called "Body Boost" that is loaded with anti-oxidants. It is a "Berry Blend" of: Red Grapes, Acai, Raspberry, Goji, Bilberry, Elderberry, Blackberry, Pomegranate, Black Cherry, Melon & Cranbberry & Green Tea. Many of these berries I have growing on my property.

You can NEVER eat too many berries... Love

Also Annick,

I eat a fresh salad almost everyday. I cook a batch of garbanzo beans or black eyed peas every week to go on top. When I don't make a salad (which is rare), both my husband & I notice that you feel like crap!

Also it is filling & helps you from getting hungry later. While I am a Bunny in how I eat, I do eat like a horse & never gain weight. It's all about eating the right stuff & eliminating the BAD.

I like my Green Tea & diluted red wine too...my NEW concoction is 1/3 glass wine/ splash of lemon juice/ water.

My husband calls me a "cheap date"... Laughing

Frankly, you sound like a terrific couple. Love

I have to learn to make grander salads. I'm here alone, so it's hard to get motivated to make a fuss. Weeping

What specific proteins you you eat? The garbanzos are a great idea, and I'll cook myself a batch today. I usually eat either salmon, antelope, or ostrich (I know this must sound strange.) Laughing I live near a place where Julia Child used to shop, and their specialty is grass-fed poultry and meats. The fish I have flown in.

Berries are harder for me to get. Right now there are wonderful wild strawberries, and soon the wild blueberries will be in season.
