What if the changes we put into practice now in our skin and hair care regimens saved us much grief and issues later on? Start this month and make changes that will reap big dividends as far as your skin's beauty and health are concerned. Let's get back to basics! The steps are easy:

Tip #1: Cleanse Without Damage
Many soaps and cleansers simply are not gentle enough for skin in need of strong rejuvenation. Over-the-counter soaps can strip it from its protective lipids, making the breakdown of the water-holding barrier easier, causing moisture to evaporate faster. This leads to skin that looks dry, dull, and wrinkled. SOLUTION: Keep your protective layer intact by cleansing your skin using mild cleansers with pH from 5.5-7.

Tip #2: Throw Away Chemical Moisturizers
Moisture is valuable, especially during autumn. But do you know what your favorite over-the-counter moisturizer is really made of? Look at the label. Many moisturizers are formulated with chemicals that may feel good on skin (immediately making it look smoother and hydrated) when in reality it may be the cause of irritation and dryness, factors which lead to having to re-apply product throughout the day. SOLUTION: Moisturize without damage by using natural biological oils (such as squalene or emu oil).

Tip #3: Find the Right Antioxidant
Harmful factors you may have been exposed to this summer (such as UV-radiation and toxins) are damaging because they trigger chemical reactions that produce a large amount of very aggressive molecules known as free radicals. Free radicals damage collagen and elastin and wreak havoc on the skin's DNA, leading to accelerated aging. SOLUTION: Help your skin fight off aggressive free radicals with cosmetic products containing natural antioxidants . Maintain the best defense by using naturally occurring antioxidants, such as vitamin E and C, alpha-lipoic acid, coenzyme Q10 and carotenoids.
