Nicotine and skin healing.
I'm using Skin Biology methods for scar reduction. I quit smoking some time ago and have been using nicotine gum. I have known for long time that smoking is very bad for skin healing and most plastic surgeons advice to quit smoking at least one month before operation.

But what I haven't taken in account is that it's not just carbon monoxide and other toxins in cigarettes but nicotine itself that inhibits healing. I think it has something to do with blood circulation in tiny blood vessels? Of course I'm dropping those products, but if it really inhibits healing and slows down skin remodelling process then it's an extra motivator. Smiler

Nicotine constricts blood vessels. So there is less oxygen and nutrients available for rebuilding your skin.
