Dear sexibeach:

Because our products are more biological in nature than chemical, you should not have to worry about any negative chemical reactions when using the Folligen along with any other products. You will want to use your Folligen products a bit differently than other cosmetic over-the-counter products. Use much less.

We will have Dr. Pickart add any comments if need be.

thanks for answering.. i've heard that sulfur is also very good at promoting hair growth.. so i'd like very much to keep using this product as well.. altho, its a sulfur product maded of many oils, its had many good reports on the effectiveness of growing hair.. but its also a hair conditioning treatment used mainly on horses maines to grow faster, but many humans use it too..i'm hoping that its fine, b/c i'm going to give it a try..

Dear sexibeach:

Well, we know that MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) which is taken as an oral supplement is a sulfur donor and that sulfur is needed by the body for healthy keratin production (nails/hair).

MSM was given to horses to help their manes grow.

does MSM merely make hair grow longer and faster but will it also cause hair to grow in thicker?

I just googled MTG and I can't find a list of its ingredients. It sounds interesting. I know people have used other "horse products" on their skin and hair...but does anyone know if this product is safe? It seems to treat A LOT of symptoms. What's in this stuff?

By the way, sexibeach...did you say your hair grew 3/4" in 1 1/2 weeks?? That's amazing. Everything I've ever read says that hair grows aprox 1/2" per month. So 3/4" should take about 6 weeks! Your hair is growing 6 times faster than normal?? Wow.

you would apply at night time and more than likely you would wash your hair the next day..b/c it does have oils in the product, and its not the best smelling either.. after i apply it, i received a lavender oil perfume from skin bio with my folligen products, so i spray a few squirts on my hair with that scent to cover the smell..you do smell the sulfur in the product.. its not made for any specific hair type, originally it was made my a white baber for his clients quite some time ago like 50 years or so..and he just began to use it on horses..i can't remember the whole story but that's how it was originally made per the president of the company.. it has since been used for the maine of horses, they never went back to just strictly for human use until now, b/c we've heard about its growth benefits so now lots of people are ording it for hair growth..it says it can grow up to 3 inches per month... so it's not like it's a ethnic product, i would think a horses maine hair type is closer to yours than mines..i'm bi-racial and i use it, and i'm sure it's not a problem for you either..Smiler

i learned about the Orginial MTG from another hair forum for women, so there's a boat load of other women using this product..even some of their husbands have taken it to use it, so they are kind of fighting over it..lol i kept reading how these people were getting growth from using this product.. its does have cade oil in it, and think that's what not so great smelling conbined with the sulfer..the sulfer powder settles at the bottom so you have to shake it up b4 applying.. so i decided to use it..i find that i can't use it everyday b/c i don't wash my hair every day, plus the smell initially isn't the best but it is gone by morning..i get either a dropper or a small squirt bottle and apply a little to my scalp along with the copper therapy spray and massage the scalp..sulfur is a mineral just like copper is..i measured my hair prior to starting all of this, that's why i knew i had this rapid growth..i've not had any problems using this together or seperately..i had decided to this in combination with the copper prior to even receiving the MTG and the Folligen, that's why i initially posted this question to Dr. Pickart b/c i knew my orders were coming..Since i measured my hair and saw this new growth i've since ordered a 32 oz. bottle and got it today it was only 12.00 plus S & H..I do the proper moisturizing deep treatments as well as protein treatments in addition to the daily or every other day usage of the copper and the MTG scalp treatments.. i try to wash more often and then condition, and keep the heat off my hair now.. and i has really grown 3/4 of inch in about a week and a half..

I hope i don't get in trouble for this, but for Deb and JL this is the email sent with regards to the use of MTG and the ingredients with the history of it.

I understand and appreciate your request for further information regarding human use of Original M-T-G. Let me begin by giving you a bit of background on the product and company.

As you already know, Original M-T-G was originally formulated by a barber for use on psoriases, dandruff and dry skin on his customers. This was in the 1930’s and that product is essentially the same formula that we are currently using. He also started marketing this formula for use on skin problems for horses. When he sold the company, the new owners pursued the animal market, where it has remained.

During the 14 years that I have owned Shapley’s, I have spoken to several people who have used it successfully to treat skin problems on humans. Over the years, we have received reports of many others using it with no negative effects.

When I was first made aware that people were using it recently for growth purposes, I was interested to see what results they would obtain. As this has not been our intended market, Shapley’s has not performed any efficacy testing for human hair growth. What I am hearing and reading is that people are getting good growth from using Original M-T-G. Because of the results I have seen, I have begun to research and develop a product to test for human hair growth. This, of course, will take time and effort, and any feedback that we can receive will be helpful and appreciated in bringing the best product to the market.

Shapley’s is very conscientious of what we formulate for animal use and are recognized in the marketplace for using the finest quality ingredients. I can tell you that the current formulation doesn’t contain anything that is known to have detrimental effects on humans or animals, unless it is an allergic reaction. (The ingredients are petroleum distillates, sulfur, zinc sterate, cade oil and glycerine). As recommended and stated on the bottle, we always suggest performing a patch test for sensitivity on any new product before use. People have been using it on their animals for almost 70 years with unbelievable success. The reported negative reaction using Original M-T-G since I have owned the company is less than 1%.

As for the frequency of use, because we have not tested it, I can't recommend a routine. From the information I am receiving, people are using it anywhere from daily to weekly. My advice is that if they are using it frequently as start seeing any negative changes is to decrease the frequency of use.

I hope this helps to answer some of your concerns. Please let me know if you have any questions, concerns or feedback. I will be happy to answer them to the best of my knowledge and ability.

Best regards,

Thanks sexibeach! This is very helpful.

One question...You say you're using the MTG and the CP/Folligen products at the same time. I thought I read somewhere on the skinbio site that you shouldn't use products containing zinc at the same time as using CP products. One of the MTG ingredients is zinc.

Dr Pickart? Any thoughts or comments on using zinc and CPs simultaneously?

I am ready to order this stuff today!
