Are there any products that will increase hair and/or skin melanin? or any products on horizon like this Melanotan product? I've been tracking this product which is taking forever to get to market.. over 10 years now since I first heard about it, to get through test trials but their studies so far are promising. at this rate, by the time it's available, the rest of me will probably be falling apart.

It's not just for vanity. it's actually a skin cancer protector and that runs in my family..

but also anything that can cause hair to grow darker too? thanks
thanks.

Dear KB:

Regarding a product to increase hair melanin (or to cause it to grow darker), you might find the following very interesting about copper-peptides.

Click here to read Dr. Pickart's Article on "Improving Hair Growth with Skin Remodeling Copper Peptides"

Under the subheading Improving General Hair Vitality with SRCPs it mentions:

"Reduce Graying of Hair - Hair becomes gray with age but the speed that this happens may depend on the adequacy of available copper in the scalp. Melanin and other hair pigments are products from the amino acid tyrosine by the action of tyrosinase, a copper-containing enzyme. Additional scalp copper might slow this graying process and our clients at Skin Biology have often reported the re-pigmentation of gray hair after using our Folligen products."

Best Wishes,

Dear KB:

You'll find our page on Sensible Suntanning very informative as well.

There it mentions: Clinical researchers at the University of California at San Francisco and the Shanghai Medical University reported that Protect & Restore Cream facilitated an increase in true skin melanin formation (not merely the staining of the skin) even with indoor (non-ultraviolet) light.

Protect & Restore Suntanning Lotion also creates an environment that aids the skin's natural ability to form the protective pigment and anti-oxidant, melanin.

Best Wishes,
-Skin Biology
