I was reading i a discussion not to use zinc oxide with cp's. Here is the ingredients in the block I use:

TITANIUM DIOXIDE (sunscreen grade) 8%

ZINC OXIDE (sunscreen grade > 100nm) 6%

Is this sunblock blocking or diminishing my CP'S
Any advice will help me alot Thank You

Diane,

Zinc oxide generates zinc ions which competes and most likely displaces the copper ions which will reduce their effectiveness. BUT there is good news, you can block (for the most part) the convergence of zinc oxide to zinc ions by first applying something like Day Cover.

Yes - I spoke with Dr. Pickart regarding this very question yesterday. He said that you would want to apply the titanium dioxide first. He said it is to help block the convergence of zinc oxide to zinc ions, but also to keep the pores from becoming enlarged by the zinc.

He said many of his clients relate that when they use zinc oxide, their pores size is increased.

Thank you very for your help TaylorWilliam!

The sunblock I currently use has both titanium dioxide and zinc dioxide combined. Would I still need to apply Day Cover first.

A light, initial coating of Day Cover would help protect your skin.

Since I don't have Day Cover at the moment..how long should I wait after applying the CP before a zinc oxide based sunblock. I really am concerned about diminishing the effect of CP due to the sunblock.

Not very long. The CPs will form a barrier quickly. But rub the CPs in for about 5 to 10 seconds.

Ten minutes wait after this is enough.

It is in the infamous group of chemical sunscreen, so its not.
I think many countries (e.g. all european countries) ban it.

Dear dianemarie:

Dr. Pickart has posted some comments on the use of octinoxate in chemical sunscreens - See:

You may want to look into Skin Biology's Protect & Restore Day Cover, a copper-peptide cream with added UV reflector titanium dioxide.

I think the EU banned the sunscreen oils for a time but then the cosmetic companies forced the bureaucrats to withdraw the ban.

Awwwwwwww that is horrible and crazy how money from big corporations are way more important to those that rule countries than the safety of the people....
